A message from Naresh Fernandes
On January 26, India’s Republic Day, Scroll turns ten. Over the decade, India has undergone some of its most profound transformations since Independence – and we’ve been on the ground to report about them. Since we started in 2014, we have attempted to shine the spotlight on areas, both geographic and thematic, that the Indian mainstream media most often ignores. We have a rich experience of reporting from Kashmir and the North East, for instance, not just in a period of crisis. In a time of intense polarisation, we believe journalism can play a role in helping bridge bitter divisions. That is the premise of our weekly series, Common Ground, which features rigorous reports on health, education, work, gender, land and climate – areas rife with challenges that all Indians agree must be solved. We’re proud that the quality of our work has been recognised, both in India and abroad. This year alone, our reporters have won 14 prestigious awards such as the Ramnath Goenka Award, the Redink Award, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Press Institute of India Annual Awards.Independent media is under attack in India and we need the support of engaged readers like you to keep producing rigorous journalism. As we turn ten, we’re asking you to invest in the next chapter of Scroll. By raising our membership request, we’re building a sustainable future for the journalism you rely on. Become a founding member of Scroll’s next decade. Your contribution will have a real and lasting impact.
